Our school, like many others has been sent a threatening message. North Yorkshire Police has looked at the messages and believes that there isn’t any genuine threat and that it is a hoax email. In fact the email is believed to have been sent to many schools across the UK.
Caitlin, Ellie, Chloe and Bella were amazing on their Radio York Interview this morning. They talked about how they have been inspired by England's Commonwealth Games success to continue to play netball and how they participate at school, I am very proud of them! - Miss Gilderdale
We are pleased to announce that Barry Cornforth who works in the Wiltshire cluster has won the Minster FM Teacher of the Year award. The Award is part of their Local Hero Awards that are held every year.
I took a team of 13 students to the Poppleton centre for the North Yorkshire Boccia and Table Cricket tournament. We were up against 8 schools from around North Yorkshire. We got off to a really bad start in the Boccia losing our first match 2-1 but then smashed it and won all our 7 remaining matches to beat a school from Northallerton in a very competitive final 6-1.
Today has is a special day where students can pay £1 to wear their onesie for school. A huge number of students have taken part and this is all in support of the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice that does such incredible work.
Two of our Year 9 students came second in the prestigious York Civic Trust Public Speaking Competition last night.
Congratulations to The Oracle, a band made up of 3 Joseph Rowntree School students who have won the Minster FM Battle of the Bands competition. Minster FM have been searching for North Yorkshire's best young band or artist and after a huge number of entries, the contestants were whittled down to the top 5 and of these finalists The Oracle were announced as the winners!
The PTFA are a group of parents and members of the community who support the school by organising social events and passing all funds raised to the school for the direct benefit of the children.
The Joseph Rowntree School finished close runners-up in the Panathlon Northern Multisport Finals on Thursday, after a hard-fought competition against three other regional winners.

We are absolutely delighted to celebrate the success of our students this summer. This year we have seen an increasing number of students with multiple A* grades across the curriculum; including in Science, Maths, Humanities and Art & Design. In the first year of the reformed Linear A levels we have initially a pass rate of 99.6% and over half of entries at grades A*-B.
Year 12 student James King entered a School photography Competition in May entitled Understanding York’s Environment which involved taking a photograph that displays an aspect of York’s environment and wiriting an explanation of why they chose this scene.
