Mr Hewitt, Headteacher at Joseph Rowntree School commented on the excellent A level results achieved by students in the Sixth Form. “We are all absolutely thrilled with the outcomes of students in the class of 2019.  Their commitment to their studies whilst also being role models for the rest of the school and maintaining a healthy interest in extracurricular activities outside of school has really paid off.  The results achieved this year represent not only a healthy improvement on the results achieved last year but are also right up there with some of the best results achieved at Joseph Rowntree Sixth Form.  We are most proud of the fact that our students have made excellent progress on their level 3 programmes, not only are the headline outcomes very impressive but students have done tremendously well compared to their GCSE performance.  Early analysis suggests that our students will have performed in at least the top 25% of schools nationally in terms of the progress they have made over the last two years.”

Outstanding attainment was achieved across the full range of subjects offered, with the following students achieving multiple top grades.  Pheobe Mountain with A*A*A in Biology, Chemistry and Maths as well as an A grade in her EPQ goes on to study Medicine at Oxford, Jamie Davies with A*A*A* in Biology, Chemistry and Maths also goes on to study Medicine at Oxford.  Martin Whitaker achieved A*A*A* in Maths, Further Maths and Physics and will read Mathematics at St Andrews.  Ellie Clark was awarded A*A*A in Photography, PE and Graphics and leaves us to study Graphic Design at Salford. Mr Coleman, Director of Sixth Form added “We are incredibly proud of the achievements of all of our students from the Class of 2019.  They have worked consistently hard to ensure that they were well prepared for the exams in the summer and given the challenging nature of the assessments they were faced with and the fact that two years of course content was assessed in one set of exams we are delighted with their outcomes.  We are especially proud that these students performed in excess of their targets in many cases, with the percentage of grades awarded at A*, A and B all exceeding the targets we were set following their GCSE results.  With 10% of grades at A*, 25% A*/A, 55% A*-B and 85% A*-C these results are the best we have achieved in the last 5 years and the progress students have made is also in line with some of the best results we have ever had.  Everyone at Joseph Rowntree School wishes the Class of 2019 every success in their next steps.”
