A number of our subjects have added some really exciting aspects to their schemes of work this half term in Key Stage 3, with so many different opportunities offered to our students.
2 of our year 8 history classes attend pick me up theatres one man performance of Private Peaceful at the John Cooper Studio in York. The play is based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo's, the author of War Horse. Students attend the matinee performance during their usual history lesson. They were impressed by the amazing venue, and stage set up. None of our students were aware this was going to be a full monologue, with just one actor, George Stagnell on stage throughout the 90 minute performance. George had our students and staff transfixed with this amazing story, so much so that many felt compelled to write thank you letters to him following our trip.
Meanwhile in year 9, a large group of students headed to the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds for a afternoon in March for a performance of the 5* production of Romeo and Juliet. This Shakespeare play is being studied by students as part of their scheme of work. We totally enjoyed the modern day setting of this performance and it really brought the script to life.
