KS5 - Further Mathematics
A Level (AQA)
“Everything that is beautiful and noble is the product of reason and calculation.” – Charles Baudelaire
A LEVEL QUALIFICATION STRUCTURE
The three overarching themes of the new A level Mathematics specification are:
1. Mathematical argument, language and proof
2. Mathematical problem-solving
3. Mathematical modelling
FIRST YEAR
You will expand your understanding of the number system and algebra through complex numbers and new forms of algebraic proof. You will learn about matrices and their vast and varied use in solving mathematical problems.
SECOND YEAR
You will develop your understanding and application of complex numbers and matrices. You will also learn new types of functions and alternative ways of plotting coordinates; this culminates in a true synthesis of the knowledge and techniques developed in A Level Further Mathematics.
A: Proof
B: Complex numbers
C: Matrices
D: Further Algebra and Functions
E: Further Calculus
F: Further Vectors
G: Polar coordinates
H: Hyperbolic functions
I: Differential equations
J: Trigonometry
K: Numerical Methods
“Nobody knows why, but the only theories which work are the mathematical ones.” – Michael Holt
