KS5 - Criminology
Level 3 Diploma - (WJEC)
The WJEC Level 3 Diploma in Criminology will allow students to acquire knowledge and understanding in purposeful contexts linked to the criminal justice system . The qualification’s synoptic focus will ensure that learning is coherent across all units.
Unit 1—Changing awareness of crime
Unit 2—Criminological theories
Unit 3—Crime scene to courtroom
Unit 4—Crime and Punishment
In unit 1, students will learn about the different types of crime, influences on perceptions of crime and why some crimes go unreported.
In unit 2 students will draw on their knowledge from unit 1 to develop their understanding of why people commit crime.
In unit 3 students will learn about the criminal justice system from determination of a crime being committed through to the delivery of a verdict.
INTERNAL ASSESSMENT
Units 1 and 3 are internally assessed coursework units where students will be taught some theoretical content and set tasks to complete to demonstrate their understanding. These will be assessed and standardised internally with a sample being sent to the exam board for moderation.
EXTERNAL ASSESSMENT
Units 2 and 4 are externally assessed examination units. These are 90 minute assessments, worth 75 marks and are comprised of a selection of short answer and longer response questions.
