Curriculum Knowledge 

PHOTOGRAPHY

Throughout the two-year courses’ students will develop the following curriculum knowledge:

  • An ability to develop ideas through sustained investigations, informed by contextual and other sources.
  • Demonstrate analytical and critical understanding. 
  • Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes. 
  • Reviews and refines ideas with increasing confidence as work develops. 
  • Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions. 
  • Reflect critically on work and progress. 
  • Present a personal and meaningful response. 
  •    Successfully realise intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.

Year 10

Students will start the course by looking into the basics of photography through the use of their camera phones. They will work on a number of skills including lighting, framing and viewpoints, physical image manipulation and digital image manipulation. This will form the work for project 1 which will run until the end of the first term. Students will then look at project 2, the personal investigation where they will choose a starting point to work from which will lead them through the assessment objectives. Students will explore, develop and record their ideas in a digital portfolio.

Year 11

Throughout the first term students will continue to develop their personal investigation project, they will then produce a final outcome, project 1 is worth 60% of the grade.

The final unit is the externally set assignment. This consists of a range of briefs that the students can choose from. They will produce preparatory work over a set period of time and then complete a ten hour exam period over 2 days where they will produce their final outcome. This unit is worth 40% of the course.
