Core PE

Curriculum Knowledge 

Year 10

Core PE - More emphasis on applying skills into competitive situations, using different conditions to practice key skills. Apply rules and regulations into full competitive games across a variety of sports. Students will complete a leadership topic to enhance students' understanding of planning sessions and practice communication skills. Fitness is related to overall well-being in all aspects: Social, physical and emotional. Promote enjoyment and start to look at creating a lifelong participation in sport / activities. Develop techniques in athletics and analyse performance in this discipline to try and improve performance. Students will be encouraged to assess performances and situations and create solutions to improve solutions. Promote extra-curricular sports and club links within the society

Year 11

Core PE - Students now have the chance to choose which sports and activities they want to participate in. High emphasis on student enjoyment and participation. Build up students’ self-esteem and confidence and give students a more independent role within lessons through organising team and apply different strategies and tactics. Give students the chance to follow their interests and participate in activities that improve physical, emotional and social health.

GCSE PE

Curriculum Knowledge 

Year 10

At GCSE we understand the different components of health and fitness, principles of training and training are used by different athletes.  Explain how the cardiovascular, respiratory and muscle-skeletal system enhance performance and how different lifestyles affect these. 

Year 11

At GCSE understand what barriers different groups of people may face in participating in sport. Understand the impact of commercialisation on sport and how behaviour in sport affects others. Look at different coaching techniques and the impact of different types of feedback and guidance. Analyse the use of nutrition on athletes and understand why different athletes would require different diets.

  • Develop theoretical knowledge and understanding of the factors that underpin physical activity and sport and use this knowledge to improve performance
  • Understand how the physiological and psychological state affects performance in physical activity and sport
  • Perform effectively in different physical activities by developing skills and techniques and selecting and using tactics, strategies and/or compositional ideas
  • Develop their ability to analyse and evaluate to improve performance in physical activity and sport
