Curriculum Knowledge

 

Year 7: Learn basic skills and apply knowledge into competitive situations. Learn rules for different sports and practice using different techniques and begin to analyse how this affects performance. Explore dance and understand the principles which are implemented within different dance styles. Students will start to apply strategies and tactics into competitive situations, mainly conditioned environments to allow all students the chance to practice skills. Focus on sportsmanship and fair play. Support and encourage each other during high pressure situations. 

 

Year 8: Students build on knowledge and techniques learnt in Yr7. Skills are assessed in more pressured situations and a higher level of technique is practiced. Different methods of fitness practiced and the knowledge from that is applied to health benefits and how it impacts on different sports. Students have a chance to explore the principles of gymnastics and use creativity to produce routines. Students will be encouraged to officiate and sportsmanship and fair play is now expected for the students.


Year 9: Adapt skills and techniques to impact on performance and be able to use a range of strategies and tactics in competition. Use knowledge to self-assess performance and analyse strengths and weaknesses to make progress. Understand how to improve different components of fitness and the impact this will have in a variety of sports. Officiate effectively by apply rules and regulations into different sports and showing a high level of sportsmanship. Students will use map reading to complete orienteering courses as an outdoor education activity. They will also use team building exercises to promote cohesion between students whilst looking at problem solving, communication skills and physical challenge.
