KS3 - Maths

Curriculum Knowledge

Year 7: Students begin a programme of study tailored specifically to their attainment in year 6 based around 3 key strands (racetrack). The curriculum is designed along the principles of Mathematics Mastery and has been designed to secure and deepen pupils' understanding and confidence with number work and calculations. Develop understanding of shape and space with 3D shapes and angle rules. Pupils are introduced to algebra and progress into graphs and transformations. They will be taught to represent, summaries, and compare data sets. Application follows each key concept across all areas of maths and we believe is a key skill to unlocking those students who have seen difficulty in the subject, as well as extending those who have a greater understanding.

Year 8: Students cover topics at greater depth to promote mastery and understanding so that they are “GCSE ready” within their second year. The initial content heavily focuses on closing any gaps on number and algebra as these are considered essential building blocks for the rest of the content.

By the end of KS3 students all of the core skills should be fully embedded to ensure each student has the greatest chance of success with the GCSE course.
