KS3 - Art & Design

 Curriculum Knowledge

 

In Year 7 students will learn about using tonal and coloured pencil, including how specific artists deploy techniques in their work. They will also spend time on 3D sculpture, oil pastels, watercolours, in addition to poly tile printing and collage across the year.  Students will spend time in textiles, where they will be taught techniques for using sewing machines and other specialist equipment safely and effectively. They will use these techniques and skills in a design project where they will design and create a fabric monster across a period of time.

 

In Year 8 students will develop their drawing techniques yet further, including with wet drawing and experimenting with texture painting. They will undertake further artist studies and work on tonal observation drawing. There will be more work on sculpture, including clay and wire work.  In textiles students will further develop their repertoire of skills using tie dye, block printing and applique before spending time planning and designing a piece as part of a longer term project.

 

In Year 9 students will learn about impressionism, pop art, street deco, art deco and abstract art. Students will also undertake an extended personal project with planning, development and design phases, before the production of a final piece.  In textiles students will bring their drawing skills from fine art into the textiles arena, as well as working with carbon paper and wax.  They will also learn about and undertake hand embroidery and work on free machine embroidery before working in batik and poly printing.
