KS4 - Art & Design: Textiles

Curriculum Knowledge 

Throughout the two-year courses’ students will develop the following curriculum knowledge:

  • An ability to effectively develop ideas through purposeful investigations. 
  • Demonstrate critical understanding of sources. 
  • Thoughtfully refine ideas. 
  • Effectively select and purposefully experiment with appropriate media, materials, techniques and processes.
  • Skilfully record ideas, observations and insights through drawing and annotation, and any other appropriate means relevant to intentions, as work progresses. 
  • Competently present a personal and meaningful response and realise intentions. 
  • Express understanding of visual language.

Year 10

Students will be introduced to a wide range of techniques and media through both observational drawing and textiles sample development in a mini project to allow students to develop through the AO’s and develop understanding of how to create a sketchbook, use artists to inspire work and create a developed final piece.  In the final term students will begin to work on their main coursework component and produce a sketch book and developed project through initial research and observation, artist research and textiles sample development focussing on AO1 and AO2.

Year 11

Students will continue with their major coursework until Feb looking at AO3 and AO4 developing samples pulling from both observational work and artist research working towards a final outcome that showcases their skills in textiles with clear development from initial observations. They will then begin to work on their externally set assignment in which they will cover ao1, AO2, AO3 and AO4. Independently working through their knowledge and understanding of other artists and designers and enhancing their textiles technique skills combining techniques with skill, culminating in a final piece done in a controlled assessment of 10 hours that showcases their skills within textiles.
