Welcome to The Joseph Rowntree School LRC
The LRC aims to provide a calm area where students can study and read in a comfortable, supportive environment. We offer a wide range of resources, from the latest must-read fiction to a well-stocked non-fiction section to help with homework from Year 7 to Sixth Form. New resources for the non-fiction area are selected to support the curriculum and the stock is reviewed and updated on a regular basis. In addition to our comprehensive book stock, the LRC subscribes to journals designed to aid GCSE and A Level studies, foreign language magazines and daily newspapers. There are collections of DVDs and videos and audiobooks on CD and cassettes. These are all available for loan, and there is a listening station in the LRC where students can listen to stories. Computers are available for on-line research and for word-processing school work. All students in Year 7 have a lesson in the LRC once a fortnight. They learn about the resources available and how to use them for independent learning, as well as having the opportunity to expand their reading for pleasure. We encourage students to review books that they have read and make suggestions for items that they would like the LRC to stock. Homework clubs for Years 7,8 and 9 are held in the LRC after school, and all students are welcome to make use of the resources at any time. The LRC is professionally staffed and the manager, Ms Townend, is always available to help students find the information they need and provide guidance in choosing books for leisure reading. Opening hours are 8.15am to 4.15pm Monday to Thursday and 8.15am to 3.45 on Friday. |
